The Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose was established in 1990 and is located on Woz way, San Jose, California. It was designed by Ricardo Legoretta, a Mexican architect and spans 52,000 square feet.
It has been ranked by London observer as one of the top 5 science centers in the world. It was also ranked as one of the top 10 museums in the United States. It was officially opened in 1990 and has had over 6 million visitors in 27 years. The museum has many exhibits, all targeted at educating children.
This is a program organized for children from grade 5 to 12. Here, they participate in various projects in computer like Photoshop, Flash creator, Premiere Elements, among others. The computers were all donated by the Adobe company. From 10 am to 1 pm every Saturday, the children make arts and crafts for the museum visitors.
This is an education program launched in 1993. Over 1500 students are taught in areas ranging from science to environmental care. Research is conducted every two weeks in the Guadalupe Watershed and is monitored by the Coyote Creek Ranger Water Station.
Science + You
In Science + You, children up to the age of 10 are taken to an explorative laboratory. Here, they are taught about science and its contributions and importance to health.
Secrets of Circles
In secrets of circles, the children are taken on a Vietnamese rowing boat and taught the practical applications of math.
Here, the children have fun digging out mammoth fossils in dug pits. This is a program specially organized for the educational purpose of the kids.
Specially designed for children ages 4 and below where they get to explore in a learning laboratory and participate in a story time. There is also a Crawl Space where parents can play with their infants.
This is a particular favorite of kids as they get to view changing rainbows of colors and learn about bubbles.
Most children love that they can learn the properties of water as they play with plastic balls along the water channels.
Specially for art lovers. Children under four can learn about India in the incredible India art studio.
From Tuesday to Saturdays, 11 am is Tot time for babies and toddlers. Here, they get to play, touch, listen and wiggle while enjoying stories, music, games, parachute play, among others. By 2 pm is the S.T.E.A.M studio where families get to explore and enjoy the various programs available. S.T.E.A.M stands for science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.
